    It’s Possible

It’s possible that I actually kind of
    Like this.
    Prefer this.

    This strange isolation
    Surrounded by loyal pets
    And electronic music

    And plants of varying sorts.

I’m kind of Lucky, you know.

    Alone, and yet not.

With a modicum of unearned income
I’m free to rot at will
    And contemplate Death
    At my leisure.

It’s possible that I’m just tired of humans
It’s also possible that I’m waiting for the next opportunity
    For outrage
Because despite all, I still seem
    To have friends
    Remote friends
    Faraway friends
    Runaway friends
    Human friends

And I don’t want them hurt. I am still that much alive.
I haven’t gotten that lost yet.

    Their loss
    My grief.
    Their pain
    My outrage.

    My home
    Theirs.

    But I am
too far away, and hopelessly feral.

Still I know, and this is what matters,
That I have a feral home here,

    And my friends are welcome
Even if they were running and hiding
Even if they turned up in the middle of the night,
Over the fence, asking for hiding.

You have shelter here. We are tired of this business of fear
    And saying no.

You know the secret password. It’s about helping.

    It’s about love.

    It’s about courage.

Ultimately, nobody really needs to figure out the secret password.

    You’re the secret password.
